Christ’s Church, Ore

Artist: Robert Noonan
Media: Oil on plaster
Date: circa 1900

Condition.

A 2m sq. section of the stencilled wall painting around the chancel arch had fallen off resulting in a large area of the decorative scheme being completely lost.

In addition, in the lower areas of the scheme, the paint was unstable, curling up and lifting away from the plaster support causing further areas of loss.  There was also a thick layer of dirt covered the whole scheme.

Treatment.

The restoration involved a full clean, stabilising the paint, filling losses and reintegrating the missing stencilled design. Areas of lost gold were restored using the oil gilding technique.
