Condition.

The painting had suffered a large and disfiguring multidirectional tear. Some slight undulations were visible around the tear as well as in other areas across the surface.

Treatment.

Dating from around the mid-20th century, the canvas was still quite strong. The decision was therefore made to carry out a minimal and discrete tear repair and to fill and retouch the paint loss to reintegrate the damage as far as possible.
